Forensic Drug Chemistry

Controlled Substance Identification

CTR Laboratory performs chemical analysis on seized evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies for the presence or absence of controlled substances. Evidence submitted can be in the form of botanical material, powders, capsules, liquids, tablets, blotter paper, and various drug paraphernalia contain residue.

Dangerous Substance Identification

CTR Laboratory performs chemical analysis on seized evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies for the presence of dangerous substance that may not be Scheduled. Xylazine and medetomidine are veterinary tranquilizers found in illicit capsules. These substances are not controlled but are extremely dangerous when consumed by humans.

Marihuana Identification and % delta9-THC Determination

The identification of marihuana has become more complicated when the 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the Controlled Substance Act. This effectively legalized any material derived from cannabis which contains less than 0.3% delta-9-THC by weight/weight. Traditional forensic methods of marihuana identification are no longer legally sufficient. The quantitation of delta-9-THC in the plant material or product must be determined. CTR laboratories identifies if the material contains delta-9-THC and then quantitates the percent by weight.

Forensic Toxicology

Blood Alcohol Testing

CTR Laboratory performs legal blood alcohol testing for law enforcement agencies.

DUID Testing

CTR Laboratory performs Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID) testing for law enforcement agencies. CTR has a comprehensive standard DUID panel which includes drugs of abuse, opiates, narcotic analgesics, benzodiazepines, sleep medications, barbiturates, and more. CTR can customize a DUID testing panel to meet specific agency requirements.

Blood and Urine Screening

CTR Laboratory has a large panel of drugs and metabolites that can be screened for in both human blood and urine.

Blood Quantitations

CTR Laboratory performs blood confirmation and quantitation on a comprehensive panel of drugs including drugs of abuse, opiates, benzodiazepines, antihistamines, barbiturates, narcotic analgesics, sleep medications, antidepressants, and more.

Post Mortem Testing

CTR Laboratory performs blood screening and confirmation on a comprehensive panel of drugs including drugs of abuse, opiates, benzodiazepines, antihistamines, barbiturates, narcotic analgesics, sleep medications, antidepressants, antipsychotics, muscle relaxants, and more.
